Castle Hill is a two-form entry primary school with a nursery and a unit for pupils with autistic spectrum disorder. A very high proportion of pupils are eligible for free school meals. They also come from a diverse mix of ethnic backgrounds, mainly White British, Black African and Black Caribbean. Higher than average numbers have English as an additional language. Pupil mobility is high. In addition to the 35 pupils with autistic spectrum disorder, all of whom have a statement of special educational needs, there are higher than average numbers of pupils with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. The school is a designated Children's Centre providing a range of provision for parents and families. Additionally there are two privately managed groups, which operate from the site: Family Matters Project run by YMCA for young mothers; and Buffer Bear Nursery for children aged between birth and five years. The school operates a breakfast club.
