The Petchey Academy is an academy on the site of the former Kingsland School in Shacklewell Lane, Hackney, London. It is named after Jack Petchey and has been sponsored by the Jack Petchey Foundation. It is a comprehensive high school for boys and girls aged from 11 to 18.

The specialism of Petchey Academy is "Health, Care and Medical Sciences".

The Patron, Jack Petchey CBE, and the Governing Body and Staff, are all extremely proud of what they have achieved in the few years since opening in September 2006. This is supported independently by the last two Ofsted inspections which highlighted strong leadership, as a key to the academy's success. The academy prides itself in its high standards and expectations communicated in a code of behaviour: “The Petchey Way”. This is the bedrock of the academy and reflects its traditional values.

The Petchey Academy University Gateway offers a creative and innovative curriculum, which combines opportunities for excellence whilst working closely with universities and employers to build on the traditional ‘sixth form’ teaching concept.

There are six houses: Darzi, Hunt, Jenner, Saunders, Seacole and Yacoub. These houses are named after different medical heroes and famous medical figures.

There are six types of learning categories. These are: Core (English, Maths, Science), Expressive Arts (Art, Music, Drama, Dance), Wider World (Languages, Geography, Travel & Tourism, PE), Enterprise & Innovation (ICT, DT, Media, Business, Food, Economics), Human Spirit (History, Law, RS & Citizenship, Sociology, GPR, Psychology), Renaissance (Inclusion Unit - Behavioural and Learning Difficulties). The Petchey Academy is located in the London Borough of Hackney where its LEA is The Learning Trust. The Petchey Academy's uniform is a black blazer, white shirt, house coloured tie and black trousers, with a kilt option for girls. All accessories (scarves, hats, shoes, bags) must be plain black, without logos.

The Petchey Academy (TPA) is non-denominational, specialising in Health, Care and Medical Science. The Academy has gained a number of awards including ECM Gold, Inclusion Award and National Healthy School Status.

The academy's principal, Ms Olivia Cole, said of The Petchey Academy:

"The Petchey Academy’s Latin motto is ‘Excelsior’ which succinctly captures our ambition for academic excellence in an environment where students are encouraged to develop their interests and talents in all areas. I strongly believe that the students are proud of their academy and value its unique character. Our sponsor, Jack Petchey gives us that distinctive character. Both students and staff follow his maxim, “If I think I can, I can” which proves an apt guide for anyone striving for excellence in their studies, extra-curricular activities and working relationships.

Students have a clear set of moral values and a sense of responsibility towards the academy. Expectations of commitment to study, social responsibility and respect are encapsulated in our “Petchey Way”. When you visit, please ask any student what the “Petchey Way” means to them. Answers will range from wearing smart uniform and holding doors open for people, to working hard for the highest qualifications and successfully winning a place at a top university.

The academy is here to nurture and stimulate our students whatever their interests and ambitions. Whether they are fascinated by higher maths, music or politics, we encourage and support them to pursue their ambitions. If they are inspired by medical science, The Petchey Academy is the place for them. Our links and partnerships with teaching hospitals and universities, coupled with our Clinical Skills Lab create a stimulating environment to explore the possibilities.

There is no better way to find out about our unique academy that to come and visit us. Members of our Student Leadership Team will be happy to discuss with you what makes The Petchey Academy such a special place."
